Endodontic Therapy

What Is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal therapy is a common dental procedure used to remove inflamed or infected pulp from inside a tooth and preserve the natural tooth.

During the procedure, the infected nerve tissue inside the root canals is removed. The canals are then carefully cleaned, disinfected, and sealed with a specialized material to prevent future infection.

A temporary filling is placed until your general dentist completes the final restoration.

Understanding Root Canal Treatment

Introduction to Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a procedure used to save a tooth when the inner pulp becomes infected or damaged. It helps relieve pain, remove infection, and restore the tooth’s function, preventing the need for extraction

Common Causes of Pulp Damage

The pulp is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels that help keep the tooth healthy. This tissue can become inflamed or infected for several reasons.

Symptoms That May Indicate You Need a Root Canal

Some symptoms may indicate that the pulp inside the tooth has become infected.

How Root Canal Treatment Is Performed

After local anesthesia is administered, the endodontist removes the infected pulp from inside the tooth. Specialized instruments and disinfecting solutions are used to clean and shape the root canals.

Once the canals are thoroughly cleaned, they are sealed with a specialized material to prevent reinfection. A temporary filling is placed until the final restoration is completed.
